Question:

I've galvanized plumbing in my house. Is Drano ok or will it erode the pipes? If not what should I use.?

The bathroom sink is very slow draining but I don't want to dump Drano down it if it's going to eat the pipes. It would cost me a fortune to re-plumb the whole house.

  1. I'll bet the galvanized pipes you have is for the water coming in ( the supply) - and if so, I'll bet the drain pipes are cast iron or PVC.

    If DRANO hurt your pipes, they would be out of business so fast - so go ahead and use it.

  2. I have galvanized  and used Drano.  Long story short that stuff doesn't really work.  Better off roding it out;

    Have you cleaned out the trap?

    "You may also want to call your local Menards, Lowes, or Home Depot"  LOL

    Take it you've never asked them a question.

  3. Do 'NOT" pour any chemicals down your drain.

    Take the trap off under your sink, with a bucket

    underneath. Totally clean out the trap, in the bucket,

    then make sure the line is clear,looking down into the

    sink. Then make sure the line is clear going into the wall.

    Put it all back together, and make sure it drains as it should.

    If all has failed, please call a licensed plumber. He will charge

    extra, if you have used chemicals. Good l**k. <}:-})

  4. Read the back of the bottle. You may also want to call your local Menards, Lowes, or Home Depot & speak to someone in plumbing.
