  1. that sucks man..well i use to run 3200 m races and in track the 800m ...for that race..jus stay consistent with your running and dont try to be a leader in the beginnning..i usually kick in the speed during the last 400 m or so but the speed in the kick should increase gradually not all wasted at one time..

  2. Take it slow until the last bit of the race and then go as fast as you can. I did the 800meters the other day i did that and it helped me. :D Good luck with it im sure you wont finish last.

Also make sure you breathe lightly when running not to heavy otherwise that gets you out of breath and strech before you run

  3. There is not much you can do between now and Thursday in terms of getting in shape. What you can do is have a positive attitude and tell yourself you can do it. The human body is an amazing thing and it can take a beating. Don't worry prior to the race and just relax. Make sure you are hydrated well in advance (start consuming adequate fluids the day before). As for race strategy - don't start out too fast. Start out conservatively and as the race progresses gradually move forward. Drafting behind the person ahead of you helps a lot. And remember - as much as you may be hurting, everyone else is hurting as much or more.

  4. One word...pace.

Pacing is a key part to running in middle distance/distance events.  In sprints you can go all out, but that doesn't work so well with distance.  If you're running the 1500m, judging by the statements you made, I'd say you don't want to.  I also believe you just might not be a great runner!  It happens!  You probably haven't been training so you will stop and go a lot.  The thing to do is to try and make a steady pace, slower than you usually run it in, because that pace seems to slow you down.  If you keep an easy pace you will not start and stop all of the time and you will probably get a decent time!

If I were you, I would shoot for a 6:30 mile.  If you are in high school, then you will not come in last place with this time, but you might however if you have a 7+ time.  If you're on a track, then that would be:

    300m the first lap

    400m the second

    400m the third

    400m the fourth (last)

You want to start off kind of slower, drafting someone if possible (drafting is staying behind someone for almost the whole race, having them do all the work with going through the wind and what not, then passing them).  Then around the 800m mark you might want to pick it up a little.  At the last 400m just try to go pretty fast, then last 200m go all out.

    Good luck!

  5. no matter what don't stop and get a breathing routine.  ex. 2 steps breath in, 2 steps breath out, and focus on that.

  6. Do not start off at a very fast pace. Run what is comfortable for you so that you can make it to the end without stopping. Some people might come out fast, but chances are they won't be able to keep up that pace and you can catch them later in the run. When you are getting close to the end of the run pick up the pace so that by the end you are sprinting. You should feel like you have "nothing left" and couldn't run another inch when you are finished. Good luck!

  7. There are a couple of things you can do to help you out.

    Sleep well tonight and tomorrow

Drink plenty as well so you are well hydrated

Dont eat a large meal close to the race (morning and no large breakfast, afternoon and no large lunch)

Relax before the race - dont get worked up about it.

Make sure you have your kit with you - last minute panics arnt good either

Turn up for the race, the teacher must think you have a good chance in the race otherwise he wouldnt have put you in it.

Line up where you want, near the inside if you can but dont get crowded in. Run the first couple of laps at an easy pace, however you need to stay with the pack or near the front if you want to do well.

After 2 laps start to increase your pace - focus on the people in front of you and go to overtake them... then go for the next person and the next. There is nothing like being overtaken half way through a race to loose moral and the overtaken often drop away and out of contention.

Your aim should be to be knackered by the last 100m but ready in case you need to sprint to defend your position./ remember that the race should last about 6 minutes - not a huge length of time to run for (think of marathon runners who run for 3, 4 or 5 hours!), so you can go for it - you dont need to preserve energy for later. However dont kill yourself on the first couple of laps - go easy for them and then go in the 3rd and 4th

Finally get your head right. Dont let the others get too far ahead of you, it is a challenge and one that you can rise to. So long as there is someone behind you then you anrt last, make sure that happens. You can do well and remember that. 6 minutes running isnt too far and you can do the distance - remember that you might be racing with people who cant manage the distance so keep going and they might start walking.

  8. Try not to stop at all - it always feels worse.

Don't push yourself to hard at the start. Keep up a good steady pace throughout - don't strain yourself, then use all your effort for the last part, near the finish line.

Oh, and eat something good like pasta beforehand, to give you energy, and keep hydrated.

    Good luck :)

  9. Don't go off too fast, just go fast enough that you don't lose touch with the other runners. Then in the final stages increase your pace and try to pick off a few that are tightning up. Good luck and you can only do your best. PS: Give your teacher a slap lol.
