Right- I will no doubt go on and on (and on), but here goes- I've got a Desktop PC with DSL Broadband and am buying a laptop [this one: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-1613.aspx ] and want to be able to share the internet between the two PCs, so what do I need to do?

I guess it would be something to do with routers, but I don't really know and would appreciate some guidance and suggestions of products from British retailers.

Thanks in Advance,

Mr Monk

  1. Buy a Linksys router and call the 800 help number on the box. Make sure you wait to get a live person to assist you. It will probably take about 30 minutes to get things going.

  2. Easy. The laptop you indicated already has wi-fi (wireless internet) capabilities. I assume your desktop PC is connected through a modem and not through wi-fi.

What you need to do is to get yourself a wireless internet router. This is a device that you attach to the dsl/cable router that you have now. There should be adequate instructions that come with the product.

What this will do is allow you to share the internet between the two computers. One will be connected through wi-fi, while the other will still be connected through a modem.
