Question:

I've got a chicken that is laying blue eggs, is this OK, and are they OK to eat, and why are they blue?

I,ve got two chickens they are bantams, one lays a light brown egg and the other is laying a blue egg, I'm not sure which is laying what colour yet.

  1. If you have the breed of chicken that is suppose to lay blue eggs, then yes.

    Some breeds of chickens even lay other "easter colors", very rare and usual!


  2. one of your chickens is an Aracauna, that's a breed that lays colored eggs, usually blue, green or pink

  3. hmm..i used to raise bantams...i never seen a blue egg..i raised them over 3 years...i also fed them oyster shells which help keep the egg shells hard..gives them grit...maybe it was raped by a smurf...lol...iwould check with a vet in case it has something the other chickens could get...isolate it right now...

  4. Are you sure their both bantams? Some breeds are suposed to lay blueish eggs

    How ever Bantams are suposed to lay  

    light to rich brown eggs

    as you can see, some breeds lay blue eggs, these would usually be some that are Auracana, or part auracana, or Americana
