I've got a new camera, but I can't get the images onto the computer.?

I've had a digital camera before so I get how to plug them in via USB, but everytime I plug this new camera in a thing comes up saying 'error with the software'. It's a lumix, and on the website it says they're really easy! I don't think so. I've installed and reinstalled the software many times but there's no change. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

if it's a video camcorder... you might need to get an (optional) firewire cable. most camcorders need firewire cables (IEEE 1394) to download video, but they don't come with the cable.
