Question:

I've got a problem with Windows Automatic Updates, can someone help me?

When I log into Windows XP, the red shield on the bottom right of the screen turns on, telling me that the "automatic updates" is "turned off".

When I try to turn them on, it gives me that message: "We're sorry. The Security Center could not change your automatic updates settings. To try changing these settings yourself, go to System in Control Panel. On the Automatic Updates Tab, select Automatic (recommended), and then click OK."

I then do what it tells me to do, but it gives me that same message again, and again...

I also go to "Run" on the Start Tab and type "regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll", that works but I don't want to keep having to do that everytime I log into Windows.

If there is easier and permanent way to do it, please tell me. Thank you

  1. You need an admin login for this. Try logging in as administrator and setting it on. Do NOT use the link for windizupdate, this uses unsigned an unknown programs installed on your machine, There is no way to guarantee these are safe.

  2. Go start > RUN

then key in all this one by one

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll

    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll

    regsvr32 wucltui.dll

    regsvr32 wups.dll

    regsvr32 wups2.dll

    regsvr32 wuweb.dll

and of course after each key click ok

  3. When was the last time it actually did an update?

Do a manual update and that will sometimes fix the problem.

    http://www.windowsupdate.com

  4. Take a look into www.windizupdate.com

    easier, and with no nagging.
