Question:

I've got a science exhibition coming up. Any out-of-the box ideas?

I'm doing a model on "Power and sources of energy". Most of the students will do models on power plants like hydro-electric plants, bio-gas and the like. But I want to do something out-of-the-box. Any ideas for an unusual model on this topic that has a good chance of getting selected?

Out-of-the-box models are usually the ones that get selected. They only select the usual models if they're exceptionally well-made and explained and the write-up is excellent. I'd rather choose the former.

  1. Try to come up with an imaginative future power plant and make a model of it. Describe its feature, its advantages and disadvantages.

My suggestions include a power plant that runs on the dark energy that could be descovered by the giant magnet that starts in two three months and is situated in GENEVA.

    or

a powerplant that takes its energy from the collisions of antimatter and matter.

I suggets that you be creative and that it should be of imagination mixed with future technologies.

    hope it helped

  2. Do some reading and see what strikes your fancy.  That will help motivate you to do a good job.  Something solar-related is more likely to be suitable on a small scale.  Perhaps look for, and rate, the ways which extract the most usable energy per square meter of insolation.  Look at multilayer photovoltaic, extracting energy from several wavelengths of light.  Or thin-film photovoltaic, doing it at low cost or on a flexible surface.  Or organic photovoltaic.  Look at the economics of a rooftop collector which also uses the thermal energy to preheat domestic water.  Look at how close we are to having a practical solar car.  How much energy does the Aptera need?  How does that compare with what a thin-film photovoltaic skin could produce?  Produce some design specifications for a pure solar commute vehicle and see how much technology improvement is needed to make it practical.  That's even getting me excited!
