Question:

I've got an '88 Acura Ingetra. It normally will start right up, but after turning it off won't restart. Ideas?

This is a pretty current development, but seems to happen even on the coolest days of summer we've had.

If I leave the car sit for a short period and then try starting it, normally it will turn right over. Also, it will restart if I turn it off and right back on.

It only seems to give problems if there is a period of more than a couple of seconds between shutting it off and restarting.

If it still sounds like the main fuel relay, could you explain where it is at, and if there is a way to test it? We just recently replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, if that helps.

  1. the battery is dead. Im guessing.

  2. Does this occur all the time, or some times?  Also, does it occur on warm days, or cold days too?  If it's happening during summer time and only when car interior is warm, then I would say your main fuel relay is bad.  The usual thing that happens is that on a hot day, it will crank and crank, but won't turn over.  About a $70 part and maybe $60 labor to install.
