  1. Congratulations of getting called in, that is an important first step.

They will ask a lot of normal interview things, they want to determine if you have a strong desire to work in the railroad industry, if you have a stable work history, if you are responsible and able to work unsupervised on nights, weekends, and holidays.

If they ask if  you are willing to relocate you should be able to answer yes.

It may not happen, but early on in many railroader's careers they are forced to another location temporarily).

You will need to be drug free, they will test pre-employment and throughout your career and you have to have good eyesight, glasses are ok but you cant have any color blindness.

It's not a lot different from any other job interview process. Trainman (brakeman, and conductor) are the entry level positions in operating department.

In time, usually within 3-5 years, you will be offered a chance to promote to engineer position.

It is a stressful, emotionally demanding job with a lot of responsibility.

It is not for everybody but if you can handle the work schedule, it is a good career.

    Good Luck.
