ENGLISH LAW QUESTION

I'm 24 now and did something stupid 10 years ago, it wasn't too serious, but it was very stupid and nothing that I would admit to.

I really don't want this record to be part of my life. If I moved abroad, either emigrating or applying for a work visa in another country, will anyone be able to find out about to my past spent convictions.

I really don't want to get stuck in a dead end job because of CRB checks.

  1. when you turn 18 your criminal record is normally cleared unless it was a serious crime. get it checked out at your local police station and ask their advice on this

  2. In UK The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 enables criminal convictions to become ‘spent’ or ignored after a period of rehabilitation. The principles apply to to convictions in a criminal court, findings in a juvenile court, certain offences in service disciplinary proceedings and hospital orders under the Mental Health Act (1983).

  3. No, Its stuck on your record for ever.

  4. Due to the latest anti-terrorism laws, a criminal record is forever now. It will stay with you and you HAVE to mention your convictions on every job application, loan application etc etc.

However, due to the Rehabilitation of offenders act, you will be given the same chance as everyone else when you apply for a job etc. So there is no need to worry. You were a minor when the crime was committed and it was 10 years ago.

  5. If your crime was not considered violent, then records of juveniles get sealed and cannot be tracked.

However, I don't know how this plays out internationally.

    Good luck.

  6. It should be clear by now. Pay £10 for a print out at your local police station and see.

  7. You will not be judged by where you have travelled from but where you are and where you are travelling to. Continue on the straight and narrow path of truth and righteousness and you will do well. Fear not for youthful crimes for they shall be wiped clean.

  8. That I know of your juvenile record stay sealed unless you apply for the military. For a passport or visa I believe they will only check your adult record to make sure your not on parole and can leave the country.

However, if it does pop up, you will have to contact a lawyer that handles expungements. It will take several months for the process. Being that iT is a juvenile offense the judge should approve it.

    Good luck!

  9. If you are from the States, you have no worry.

The minors there are treated differently from adults.

All offenses committed as a minor are sealed.

  10. Records get wiped. You could always change your name!
