I've heard Cabo San Lucas Beaches are terrible?

My friend told me not to go to Cabo because you can't swim at the beaches when you stay at a hotel on the beach. Is this true? How do you find out if your hotel is on one of the beaches that you can swim at?

  1. There are some resorts on the pacific side like Playa Grande and Solmar, yes you can't go swimming but its a private beach, so no vendors trying to sell you something every 5-10 minutes and that is a huge plus, plenty of swimming pools like Cabochic said.  On the other side maybe a mile walk Sea of Cortez you can swim all you want.  I like Cabo better than Cancun, PV, and Mazatlan so I bought a timeshare there.

  2. Iv been their and the beaches are very clean and u can swim at almost all the beaches due to the private property.....ur friend  must of had a bad dream or didnt understand spanish but i didint have a problem when i went!

  3. Cabo's beaches are a lot prettier & cleaner compared to other places along the Mexican coast. Maybe you're friend was confused with Puerto Vallarta because I've heard the water there is terrible!

  4. Hola!  What you heard is true and false.  Let me clarify.  The beaches that line the coast of Cabo change drastically all year round due to currents, tides, and hurricanes.  The pacific ocean is very powerful and therefore the water near shore can be too.

But we do have the beautiful white sands, lovely clear warm turquoise waters, and for most of the year our beaches are wonderful.  Some days the wind can kick up and it gets a little rougher.  There are particular beaches in Cabo that are more sheltered and lovely for swimming and snorkelling.  Here's some of them:  Medano, Palmilla, Chileno, Zippers, Santa Maria.

Some of the resorts are on stretches of beach that are not as sheltered and therefore are a bit rougher.  Strong tide pull, rip tide, undertow, rouge waves, etc.  Most of them will post a flag telling you if it is safe to swim or not.  Also, most have overcompensated with lovely pools, or they have build a breakwater.

You will not find beaches like the Caribbean in Cabo.  So do not compare them.  Totally different ocean.
