  1. What makes them special is that they serve their country, to perserve their freedom and their way of living.  If you are inclining about the berets because of the US Army Special Forces 'berets', and that you are comparing them in a biased tone, then you obviously never served in the military, let alone in a forward area.

h**l, what makes US Army Green Berets so speclal, what makes the Navy SEALs or Marine Force Recon so special, after all we all have a small part in the fight.  It is after all, the grunts that do the real fighting!  It takes us Recon guys to support them in gathering intelligence so they complete their job!

  2. The following is written on the walls of the terrorists shelter in the southern east part of Turkey:

"If a soldier is shooting continuously at you, he is a novice. When he is run out of bullets, then shoot at his head.

If a soldier is shooting at you when your head is up, he is a commando. Run away from there as soon as possible.

If a soldier disappears after he sees you, he is a "red beret", he will find you whatever you do..."

They are so special because they are well-trained, strong and fearless...
