Question:

I've heard all the positives about Job Corps; what are some of the negatives? Best and worst centers?

Email me with details if you have them. Trying to get info for my daughter who is a 19 year old high school drop out with no future, but a good kid basically. Don't want to send her to a bad experience and make things worse. Some family members want to send her to an expensive "camp" experience to straighten her out, but I don't think that will be productive because it won't get her her GED or a skill or career. Like I said, I feel the Job Corps is "THE" answer but I've heard a few bad things (mostly about the bigger centers) and I want to get both sides. I've also heard that some centers are much worse than others so I'd like to hear from people from the smaller centers--do they have fewer problems than the big ones? Help me help her! Thanks!

  1. Job Corps has all the doings of a college campus---just like on a campus, there's good and bad. JC, however, has much stricter rules and policies and procedures than regular ol' school.

After all, it's a privilege to be there, they pay your way, give you your uniforms, get your GED AND teach you a trade.

Where your daughter would go--which one--depends on what  trade she might be interested in. Some of them have "specialties"---for example, automotive repair, culinary arts, electrical/plumbing trades, cement masonry, etc.

get on the job corps website and check it out. There's a spot where you can click on what you might be interested in, and then it'll show you which sites have that trade.
