I've heard from a few people that fast food places (McD's, Burger King, Arby's, etc. are allowed to say that there meat is %100 beef (or whatever it is supposed to be) as long as the meat IS beef, they just don't count the filler. As in "the meat we do use is %100 beef" (not counting the soy or whatever used for filler). Any answers? My husband and I have been "discussing" this for awhile & I'd like to know what others say...

  1. I haven't heard of any chains using fillers in their burgers and soy is about the same price as beef now anyway.

  2. Totally true!

  3. i dont know the answer for sure, but id bet if they say it is 100% beef, it is completely cow. it could be meat, fat, hoof, nose, but all beef. they wouldnt likely survive a scandal well if it was found out they were lying like that, it would be a terrible risk for them to take for the sake of a little filler ingredients.

  4. sad n true

  5. I have always thought when they say %100 beef that is truly what they mean.  Back in the eighty's I remember McDonald's advertising their beef is grass fed.

  6. I guess nobody appreciates being a lie directed at them.  But, this a rare case in which your health is probably promoted by soy fillers instead of red meat.  But, I wonder if the grease makes the whole debate kind of meaningless?  Good question.  And I will check the calorie and content  chart the next time I visit MCD for an ice cream cone.  I am not wealthy; but, I would have to be paid to eat from the food menu.

  7. i totally agree with the next guy!

  8. I USED TO WORK AT MCDONALD'S AND IT SAYS "100% BEEF PRODUCT" ON THE FROZEN PATTY BOXES WE GOT!

  9. Thats true.

Get a steak and then get a hamburger and see the difference between both.

  10. I have never heard about fast food restaurants using "fillers" in their meat, but I wouldn't doubt it.  I know that the main source of beef for the low-grade meat that fast food restaurants use comes from spent dairy cattle.  Once a heifer can't produce milk anymore, she would be useless except that she can be used for her meat.  So next time you eat a burger from one of those places, just remember you are eating a post-menopausal dairy cow.  :)

  11. It's anybody's guess....I wonder why I still eat from those places?

  12. I hope thats not true....it probably is though.

  13. i heard that about arby's...i'm not sur about the rest tho
