I'm 5'1", about 130 lbs, in good overall health. I have some idiopathic nausea that can stop me from doing everyday things. I've tried some prescription stuff, but I'm more interested in a more natural approach. The Belladonna I have is homeopathic, and it's about 200C.

  1. you can kill yourself with it. leave it alone.

  2. Belladonna is potentially a deadly poison. (Deadly Nightshade)  It is a plant alkaloid that has potent anticholinergic effects.  It still has some minor uses in medicine, especially for intestinal cramps. One of its many side effects is dilating the pupils, and women have used this historically to give them  dark eyes.  But don`t worry, in a homeopathic dilution of 200C ( the equivalent of one part in the number of atoms in the universe.)   It`s not just dilute...there is no chance of any belladonna at all.

Homepaths will say that the water magically remembers the belladonna because of the magical shaking (succession) they do.  There is no proof that `like cures like`, or that a water molecule can remember being in contact with another chemical.  (Why doesn`t the water remember being in  Napolean`s bladder)

Since you used the word idiopathic, which is basically a way of saying unknown, I assume you have had a good workup by your GP or even been referred to a gastroenterologist.  If not, chronic nausea may be an early sign of some more sinister disease, like ovarian cancer, so please do see someone who can investigate you properly.

I actually agree with the advice about a proper diet, lots of fresh fruits and veggies and fibre.  Abdominal exercises will stimulate the intestines.

  3. I would only take belladonna in a homeopathic concentration. It is safe homeopathicly because there is such a small trace of it. Never take belladonna in its herbal form unless under the strict guidance and supervision of a well trained herbalist.

I would look at the package and follow the instructions, depending on the brand of the remedy, it probably says something like five pellets dissolved under the tongue 3 times a day. I would just follow the package directions.

Homeopathic remedies are great but often need to be very specificaly chosen. It is not like one remedy for nausea cures all nausea, the best remedy really is specifically selected by the combination of symptoms and descriptions of whether it is better with movement or stillness better with heat or cold....

If you are not satisfied with the results, consult your local homeopath for guidance to a remedy more specific to you.

You may also try ginger available as fresh root, tea or pills. All can help soothe the stomach. You may also try peppermint tea.

I would also explore avoiding meat and dairy products as well as seeing if you may have some food allergies.

Often idiopathic nausea can be related to problems in the motility of the muscles within the digestive system. This may sound a little strange but belly dancing and hula hooping (you would need a hula hoop designed for grown ups the little ones at walmart don't work for most adults) are great, healthy, fun exercises that specifically target the muscles that effect digestion and reproduction.

I know many hula hoopers and belly dancers who have mentioned that their various digestive and reproductive complaints have gone away since they have started. It is worth a try and these are healthy and fun activities that are good for your body and your mood even if they don't solve the nausea problem but they may help.

  4. It's extremely dangerous to self-prescribe the anticholinergic belladonna, even in tiny homeopathic dosages.  (There's a reason belladonna is also called Deadly Nightshade!)

Even therapeutic dosages of belladonna can result in high blood pressure, increased heart rate, abnormal heart rhythm, rapid breathing, hallucinations, psychotic behavior, respiratory arrest, convulsions and coma.

I'm not saying belladonna doesn't help nausea!  I've been to the ER twice with out-of-control GERD and was given a GI cocktail that contained belladonna.  However, it had to be ordered by a physician, administered by a licensed healthcare provider, and I had to stay in the ER for an hour to make sure there were no adverse effects.

If you're under the care of a physician, especially a homeopathic one, this is a question for him/her.  As you state your nausea is idiopathic, I'm sure you've been tested for conditions like GERD that might cause the nausea.

  5. well i doubt the belladonna would work for you as its main function is for swelling (mastitis), throbbing pains (toothache) etc, amd you can easily tell because the pupils of the eyes will be huge. no worries if you take homeopathic belladonna and it doesnt work, it will be eliminated from your system naturally.

Nausea usually means liver congestion so a quick liver cleanse should help

  6. Forget the Belladonna, use peppermint, spearmint or cloves as a tea to allay nausea. They will work, and are perfectly safe.

What is the cause of your nausea? Honestly, I would start with that before you try to treat it, especially since it seems as though you are self-medicating. Please speak to someone versed in the use of herbs and homeopathic remedies.
