  1. True.

    As a previous answer said - the factory settings are way too bright in case the unit was used as a floor demo.

    Find a Disney disk with "THX Optimizer" which will help you adjust things. A better choice would be Avia, Digital Video Essentials or the BluRay version of Digital Video Essentials.

    These disks are a sub $20 way for you to calibrate your display.

    An ISF Calibrationist is a great idea -but costs a few hundred. Start with the disks.


  2. No matter how well a plasma tv is calibrated, it will always have a great chance of burn in's. Plasmas will burn ANY image that stays on the screen (still without moving) from any period from 30 min or more.

  3. Probably. But the reason is not the calibration per se, it's the fact that most TVs come with brightness and contrast set way too high at the factory. Turning both of these down from the factory defaults is generally part of the calibration process. This has the beneficial side-effect of reducing the likelihood of burn-in. But it certainly does not eliminate the risk.
