I've heard that the bugs are bad in Costa Rica during a certain time of year. When is that time of year?

We are planning a trip to Costa Rica and would prefer to avoid the "buggy" season that we have heard about. Not sure if it coincides with the Green season, or if it is only at the beginning of the Green season, or if it is some other time. Also, we might expect that it might be different for different parts of the country. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  2. I have traveled there many times, and bugs have never been a bad problem.

But if you are going into the middle of the jungle... expect bugs. It's a rain forest, afterall.

    And bring OFF.

  3. If yu are going into the jungle of Costa Rica, yes, bugs may be a problem but just bring your repellant and you'll be ok. There isnt really a "bug season" there, it depends on the area but it isnt really a problem.

  4. I only had bug troubles when I lived at the beach (Guanacaste)...  No amount of deet could protect me.  At any given time I had over a hundred bug bites.  I currently live in the city and have NO problem with bugs, or spiders..  Just little ants that seem to be able to find the smallest amount of sugar ANYWHERE in the house.

  5. lived here for years and never had a problem...just bring a repellent and use it when you go out
