  1.       It means you need an optical or coaxial cable from your PS3 and DVD to receiver to get 5.1 surround sound. It doesn't support also new HD sound formats such as DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD from Blu-ray movies. Around $400 you can buy Onkyo 606 which supports new HD sounds and audio via HDMI.

  2. Yeah don't get the 505, it's really not worth the money. If you get Onkyo, at least get the 576 but you really start getting cool features like 1080i upconversion and HD audio decoding with the 606. The 606 is the best bang-for-your-buck receiver IMO. That's why I have one :)  The 606 lists for $600 but you can get one for as low as $400 off Amazon.

  3. Some AV equipment is not capable of running audio and video over HDMI.    This receiver can only carry video over HDMI.  What you could do, since the receiver has two HDMI ins, is hook up your satellite dish using component video (that's the one with a green, blue, and red for video and red and white for audio) and that will give you up to 1080i quality.  Then, for your PS3 and DVD player could be connected for video with HDMI and your best bet for audio would be to use an optical cable.  It has higher quality sound than the regular composite (red and yellow) hookup.  However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a composite audio hookup and it'd probably be a little easier.  To get the video to your projector, you will need to run an HDMI cable to it from the HDMI out on the back of your receiver.

    Good luck!
