Question:

I've inherited a kitchen sink that's very stained - best cleaner?

The kitchen sink is either ceramic, or hard plastic and it's quite badly stained. It marks like mad when I put saucepans etc. in it too. I'm only used to stainless steel and this one is a nightmare. I'm reluctant to use bleach, but it's getting to that point. Can anybody recommend a product that will do the trick, and even advise what it's likely to be made of?

  1. Well if its that bad   why worry if a product   harms it   ?  I use  Jif  cream cleaner,  but mine is stainless steel  .  rub with a scourer sponge.

  2. try mr clean magic eraser

  3. Most likely this is an ongoing problem, sorry, it will keep doing this, the best thing is to replace it if you can.

Look on Ebay maybe for one or watch out for the sales

  4. Hi, make a paste with oxiclean and water.  Oxiclean works great.  I love it.  I use it in my laundry and use it for cleaning everything.

  5. mix bicarb and lemon juice to a paste, apply to the sink and leave overnight, rinse off next day

  6. You may have already tried the Soft Scrub with bleach.  If you haven't try it using one of those green scrubby things.  I wouldn't use straight bleach though.  That may yellow it.  If the sink is ceramic, this should work.   Plastic is tough to treat once it's been abused.  Another idea is to fill it with hot water and try some oxy clean and let it sit while you go to work.  (a few hours)  Sure won't hurt to try at least.  Good luck.

  7. Fill it up with hot water and biological washing powder.  Leave until clean.

  8. Hi there, i know you don't want to use bleach, but it will come off eventually. you could also use some washing powder pour some into the sink and fill it up and leave for a couple of hours. you need biodegradable powder. or if all else fails try some cilit bang

  9. Comet with Bleach works great. They sell it for 99 cents. The smaller can can cost 50-75 cents

  10. You didn't inherit a sink you have a sink in the place you rent.  You can't tell the difference between porcelain on cast iron and plastic?  You have bigger problems than washing a sink.   Use Barkeepers' Friend or Zud.   Either one will remove pot marks left by the pans or anything else.  They both contain oxalic acid.  They remove rust and organic stains as well.

  11. VWP is a powder that is mixed with water, which is used for cleaning and sterilising beer brewing equipment, which is mostly plastic based, it is obtainable from your local home brew shop, the more you scour things the harder you'll make it to clean, as it provides a key for dirt and bacteria.

you can test it's efficiency on a stained cup or teaspoons.

  12. Your kitchen sink is made of a hard Abs plastic Do not try bleach as it will cause a chemical stain as it seeps into the plastic.

I clean my garage sink with some commercial dishwasher powder on a damp cloth or scourer then rub into the surface of the sink, wear gloves as the powder is corrosive, when applying you will be amazed what stains and dirt is removed. After you finished rinse the sink with clean water to remove residue then was with a kitchen bathroom cleaner.
