  1. Congratulations! I have owned a slow cooker for years. I only used it for the usual, obvious choices like soups, stews and casseroles etc. and I must admit that mostly,I still do.

My boyfriend bought me a cookery book specifically for slow cooking called "the slow cooker recipe book" by Catherine Atkinson, and it's fantastic! Seriously, you can make cakes,puddings,roasts,sauces,fondues,pre... and so manymore things besides!.

So,although I use it for the simple things more often than not,I now know that if I need to,I can make one of these other fantastic recipes using it!.

My advice to you would be to find this book (or similar). Happy cooking!

  2. Chili is always popular... let it simmer on Low all day.

We do beef roast in ours, too.  Sear the meat in a frying pan, then put it in the cooker with quartered onions, cut carrots, spuds, salt and pepper.  Just cover with water and cook on Low for several hours.

The biggest thing we like is the convenience; put stuff in the slow cooker at breakfast time and at the end of the day a meal is ready.

  3. Best tip I could offer is: Cook with mutton rather than lamb. As you will be cooking it for a long time, the mutton will be so tender and so much tastier than lamb.

  4. Buy Company's Coming Slow Cooker Recipes.  Find it at WalMart or any book store.

  5. Always brown meat in a pan first.

Don't bother using expensive cuts of meat, it won't taste any better than the real cheap cuts, and these have more flavour.

If cooking meat on the bone or particularly fatty meat, make sure you skim off the scum that forms on the surface.

Be inventive, you can do pretty much anything, I've even made mulled wine in mine.

  6. How about liver with some fava beans and a nice

    chianti!

    Or if your like me

Aldi beans and a tin of special brew!!!

    hfhhfhfhfhfhffhfhfhfhhfhhfhfhfhfhfhfhf...

  7. I have one, and its great.  I usually take something like chicken or sausages and throw them in, add stock, and whatever veggies I have in the fridge.  I add seasoning, ie some piri piri or bbq, whatever takes my fancy and let it do its stuff.  It makes great pot roasts and cooks bacon joints to perfection.

Just experiment and enjoy the rest of the day to do what you want while tea is cooking.
