I've just bought some firm tofu. I don't use it that much and I want a good way to use it. I'm trying to incorporate more vegetables in my diet, so I would especially love any recipes with tofu & vegetables. Maybe you can recommend a recipe you have tried?

Thanks for any help :)

  1. have it in a salad enjoy

  2. i like to make a tofu salad.  just cut up the tofu into cubes.  slice some tomatoes, green onions and onions.  place the tofu in a shallow bowl.  sprinkle the sliced vegetables over and then add a dressing.  i make my own which is a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar, a little sugar and for kick i add a little chili paste.

i also add canned tuna sometimes, but clearly you don't want that.  :P

it's very refreshing, especially if you serve it slightly chilled.

  3. stir fry. add lots of veggies and steam the tofu in another wok

  4. my absolute FAVORITE veg dish is coconut curry vegetables with tofu and brown rice or noodles....it is SO good.

  6. Scrambled tofu and veges.

Basically chunk up tofu in a pan, cook until golden brown adding any spices or veges you would like.

I like adding nutritional yeast to mine as well.

  7. Smoothies.

Use frozen fruit and some tofu and some juice.

And maybe some fresh fruit. But the frozen fruit makes it so you don't have to use any ice.

They are very good and good for you.

  8. I freeze my tofu to give it a chewier texture--see my profile for tips.

You can make a tofu stir-fry; you can grill tofu and veggies; marinate tofu, cut into chunks, and make kabobs; dredge in flour and spices and fry it up.

Check out www.vegweb.com, which has tons of recipes.

Also check out the Vegetarian Loaf Studio--you can make a veggie loaf with the ingredients you have on hand.

  9. OMG! My mom makes the most delicious vegetable tofu stir fry.  Get some Asian noodles, cut up some zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts, mushrooms, onions, pea pods, and water chestnuts, chop up your tofu, put in a big pan, and fry in sesame oil, soy sauce, and garlic.  It is so good!

  10. it's a bit simple but u can soak it in egg and then fry it, that's always yummy and you could put it in a marinade because it absorbs flavors really well

  11. GOOD for YOU trying to eat better!  how about an easy "Stir Fry"

    tofu - cubed - marinated 20min              *                              water chestnuts

    1-carrot - slivered                                       *                               bamboo shoots

1-med. onion - diced                                  *                          mung bean sprouts

1 - handful snow peas                             *               4 or 5 tablespoons of olive oil

5 or 6 mushroons of choice - sliced       *       dash of sesame seed toasted oil

Teriyaki or soya sauce - as a marinate

the amounts will vary depending on how many folks will be eating - you can add all your fav veggies to this - do not over cook

method:  in a wok or good size frying pan add -

tofu & mushrooms & carrots first - stirring vigourosly about 5 min

then add softer veggies continue to stir another 7 or so min - heat should be mediun to med. hi

turn off heat or remove from heat put lid on for about 5 min.  -  kinda steams stuff & lets rest a bit.  serve with rice or glass noodles, maybe a little Miso soup on side - there a whole meal  hope you like it  :)

p.s.:  wrote a veggie cookbook for my 4 sons - all their favs from growing up - all simple - with cooking tips  - so if you want more recipes just ask!  :)  when's lunch i'm hungry?

  12. To tell you the truth, any recipie that uses meat as an add in, such as a stir-fry or salad, can  be substituted for tofu.

A fun way to use tofu is to grill it.  Just marinade it in your favorite flavors, I love just soy-sauce, seasme oil, and hoisin mixed.  The just make sure your grill is REALLY hot, and grill it on each side for 2-3 mins.  Serve chopped on a salad of mixed baby bachoy and salad greens with blood orange segements, pecans, and seaseme seeds!

  13. Try saute-ing it with curry powder, then putting it on top of stir-fry veggies.

One of the meals I made when making the switch to vegan was a "bowl dish"- mashed potatoes, then mixed veggies, then vegetable broth grave seasoned with lemon pepper, then curried tofu.

Or crumble it and season it with herbs- thyme, parsley, sage, black pepper, and put it over rice.

Or crumble it and mix with italian seasonings to suggest cheese on a pizza, spaghetti, or lasagna.

Or slice it, spray with oil, put a plate over it and bake it till it firms up, then add it to a veggie medley.

I don't use it as a main dish because i don't like to over-use processed soy, but it adds wonderful texture to other dishes

  14. Tofu-Veggie Stir Fry

    Ingredients:

3/4 cup cubed tofu (make sure it was pressed before you use it)

3/4 cup cooked rice or noodles

1/2 cup cut up steamed veggies

    soy sauce

    olive oil

    Directions:

Coat a frying pan with olive oil and then brown the tofu. Next add the rice and veggies. Mix every thing around and add some soy sauce. Once everything is browned then the stir fry is ready!

  15. take a knife, open up the tofu, cut the tofu with the knife, open your mouth, pick the tofu up with your hands, and shove the tofu in your mouth. and thats how you eat tofu.
