I've just got my driving license,i'm concerned about the road!

Question

i was thinking to drive to college right after i got my driving license.But my sister said that i should drive with someone beside me who has higher experience because im not that sensitive or aware on the road.

What should i do? should i follow her advice? or just drive by myself to gain experience on my own?

try it on your own if yuo dont like it or are to afraid than you can have someone else with you personaly i like to drive alone

How long have you drove with someone or by your self. I felt odd the first time i did by my self but after a few days i felt like a pro

Drive by yourself, but take it steady, don't get over confident and end up as another local newspaper front cover.

I THINK YOU SHOULD FOLLOW HER ADVICE... YOU NEVER KNOW EXAMPLE YOU GET LOST ON YOUR WAY AND YOU GET NERVOUS ON THE ROAD.. I KNOW HOW THAT FEELS IT HAPPENED TO ME.. BUT I WAS ALONE ... OH BUT JUST MAKE SURE WHO EVER YOU TAKE WITH YOU DOESN'T GET YOU NERVOUS ...

its ok to feel this way once you get your license. But the fact is, you are a better driver than most other people on the road cuz ur almost fresh from driving school. I wouldnt worry if i were you, be a defensive driver and you will be fine.

drive with someone is recommended. you can drive alone but drive only in the easy roads - NOT on the roads where there is alot of traffic or interstates. you have to do alittle more practice before you drive in those situations.

I think you should drive a small distance & gradually go up in distance so you can gain a little bit of experience yourself. For example:10miles to 15miles then 15 to 20miles

you got your license, that should say enough...just believe, drive safe and if you want people off your back keep the learner sticker on till you feel better and more secure?

Are you confident in yourself as a driver?  If you feel that you can do it on your own, then do it.  If you think that some where along the way to colledge you are going to need some one's advise, then take somebody with you.  Its best to stand on your own though.  Good luck.

I faced exactly the same problem, I had 2 weeks to learn to drive 350 miles on my own to college, My Dad took me out to high speed roads with not much traffic and let me practice, high speed driving is very different than around town, you need to gain confidence, if you can't practice before hand, than go with someone.

Make sure the road if familiar to you, so you would not be distracted by looking for street names. It's better to drive when there is not traffic at first. Keep a good distance with the car infront - don't tailgate. But how are you supposed to gain experience if you don't dirive?

From your post, it sounds like you are uncomfortable about it, so I would definitely travel with someone else.  It also might depend on how far you have to drive and whether you are going through any big urban areas.

If you are traveling any kind of distance, it is a good idea to travel with someone else, no matter how experienced you are.

I say follow your sister's advice.

When I first got my license 2 years ago (i was 16) all I wanted to do was be on the road. The night I got home I took the car out for a 15 minute drive to pick up my older brother from work. It was a little scary to be on the road by myself but after 5 minutes I calmed down and felt comfortable, and believe me I was aware of what was going on around me as I was sitting on the edge of my seat! I think you should drive short distances a few times and then make the college road trip. It could be more fun with someone else, but there is no time like the present to get aquainted with the road. There is nothing to be concerned about, you will get more comforable with the road the more you drive it. Im 18 now and I absolutely love driving.

Well, I just got my license too!  And what I think is that it can't hurt to let someone who is more experienced ride with you.  There's no reason to be in a rush to become an independent driver.  You'll be driving for a long time, so I would just do what your sister said.
