Ok, so I'm a bit overweight, and I just started running. I "run" three miles, but, I don't run all the way, i stop about 3-4 maybe 5 times and walk. Does this still help? Even if I'm aonly running about a total of 2 miles and walking abouut 1? Will I lose any weight or have any health gains?

  1. Just keep trying, the weight will come off and your health will improve and before you know it you'll be running 5 miles non stop.

  2. Yes and yes.

My dad runs marathons and trains people to do the same.  He always tells people that have never ran before to run for like 2 minutes, then walk for a minute, then run for 2 minutes and walk for a minute.  Then over the weeks and months you increase the time running and decrease the breaks.  Before you know it you're running 30 minutes straight!

  3. Of couse it still helps. You're just not used to it will take some time to get good and it is deffinatly better not exercising. Good luck and keep up the good work.

  4. The important part is not how far or long you run, but it's how you progress. Running 2 miles is good, really good. Despite what you may think walking the mile in the end is the best part. That is considered as the cool down. The cool down is essential to any workout, if you dont cool down then you are risking injuries. But if you think that 2 miles isn't good enough then you should become comfortable with it and then run a little bit longer. An easier way would be just to run short fast-paced distances a few times a week or daily and that may help a bit more. But even with a short workout, you should still be sure to cool down in the end.

  5. Its still progress.  Since you just started, you're probably a bit out of shape but you should definately see some improvements in your health just by doing what youre currently doing.  After a few runs you should try to push yourself to walk less and less and soon you'll be running the whole 3miles

  6. Well, though it is impressive to take on a task like 3 miles, try running shorter distances the whole time, and increasing pace, then move on to longer distances. dont stress your body by immdiately excercising as much as possible because you could injure yourself and not be able to run at all

  7. You are awesome. Keep up the good work. There is no shame in alternating between running and walking. Before long yoo will be running and no walking. The pounds will melt off with proper diet and running.  Keep it up and good luck.

  8. dont worry ! just run a shorter distance and try not to stop. i was overweight with 230 lbs and i just ran 2 miles twice a day and 3 months later im 205 lbs. just run consistently and you will see better results. the main thing is to be consistent. if you run 5 miles and youre not consistent, there wont be any difference. BE CONSISTENT and good luck :]

  9. if you wanna do it right u dont stop!... it doesnt matta how slow u run jus DONT STOP...nex time u run go the whole 3 miles without stop ..this way you build stength, stamina and endurance. stopping is also bad because you can start to cramp up especially since you've just started. and lastly the best way to have health gains is to start off with small distances then gradually increase each week..you'll get much better results.

  10. instead of doing 3 miles of walking and running.

do 1-2 miles of just running.

then at the end walk 1 mile.

and make sure your stretching and drinking water.

  11. yea bro just shorten youre runs or so as long as you run for 30 mins non stop 30 mins if you slow down just jog it dont walk dont worry about distance just make sure you run/jog for about 30 mins an you'll become healthier i swear

  12. oh yeah you'll lose weight. starting out that's really good running 3 mi. i can't run 3 mins. they do say running burns calories faster, but as long as you walk like your on a mission and keep your heart rate up you'll still lose weight. i used to go to a track and do nothing but walk and i lost about 12 lbs. so it does work.
