I've narrowed my home theater receiver choices down to two... please tell me which one I should pick, and why

Question

1. Pioneer Elite VSX-92

2. Onkyo TX-SR805

Which one should I pick, and why? Please don't offer alternatives, I've already made up my mind that it's going to be one of these two. I'm not an audiophile, just someone that wants a reasonably good home theater experience. Other equipment I have includes a 46-inch LCD tv, 1080p. I will be getting a blu-ray player when the prices come down.

Both are outstanding choices.

The Onkyo is winning praise because it has tons of features for a low price. It won "Editors Choice" for receivers in The Perfect Vision's January issue.

Back when power was more important than number of connections or features - people were advised that all else being equal - buy the amp that is heavier.  A heavier amp has a bigger transformer and will handle power better by staying cooler.

If I am you, I will go for Pioneer. Onkyo has problem with heating and also popping sound issue. Pioneer dont have such problems.

Go for Pioneer Elite. Because of quality.

As much research as you've done, either one is probably fine, but I suggest getting the one that has HDMI input and output.  That is the most important, to get 1080p channeled throughout system and TV.  I haven't researched your choices and both may do that, and in that case I say you can't go wrong with either.  If there is only one HDMI input, you may have to buy an HDMI switcher later.  These go relatively cheap on monoprice.com.  Not suggesting other models of sound systems, but there are some that already have multiple HDMI inputs which we have.  Again your choices may have that.

Edit: Okay glanced at them.  Either choice is good.  They both have the important digital conversions for sound also for True uncompressed HD sound.
