Question:

I've picked up a speeding fine!!?

I've had a letter through the post from the police as I was caught doing 44 mph in a 30 mph zone (it was a quiet morning on a quiet road with no-one around but that's irrelevant I know).

Anyway, I hear that if you leave them long enough, they go away, is this the case?

Any advice?

  1. You were wrong. Pay the man!

No they dont go away, they get more costly.

  2. No, it won't go away. You'll end up receiving a Court summons and if you fail to attend Court a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

  3. I'm sure you've also "heard" that if you leave a tooth under your pillow, the Tooth Fairy will give you sixpence, LOL!

If you don't pay for a while, you get an extra penalty; if you wait long enough without paying, they'll issue a warrant for your arrest, you'll get fined, and you'll spend some nights behind bars.

  4. haha no they don't! you'll go to court i think

i don't drive yet, but if i did i'd burn the fine and just tell them no one sent me anything

  5. Just sit back, chill out and do nothing, you do not have to go to them, they will come to you!

They will even give you an all expenses paid vacation, with food and lodging included with a wonderful view!

They will also include a guided tour of the local courthouse and introduce you to a great group of people who are on this wonderful vacation with you!

    Enjoy!

  6. You got caught. pay the fine and move on. No it doesnt go away.

  7. a speeding ticket disappearing? only when you pay it.

  8. It is my understanding that traffic violations are "infractions" and are neither misdemeanor nor felony.  I also understand that the statue of limitations for infractions is one year, so if you can go a year without getting caught, you MAY go free.  But, is it worth the chance?

Be a man/woman and face up to your responsibility.

  9. Ignorance is not bliss.

Pay the fine, or you will end up in court.

You are lucky you are not on a 'Death by dangerous driving' Charge.

  10. sorry to be blunt but your fault for speeding

    no they wont go away

  11. No lol, leave them long enough and you'll end up in jail with no licence!

  12. no they don't go away .....but you may !!!!

  13. No, you can't leave them alone.  You have to do what the letter says.

You can contest the ticket if you wish and sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't but you should pay your fine. If you don't pay it, you could end up in jail.

  14. haha, mike mate, is that you?  lol...  is your surname hunt mate? he he, ha ha, ho ho, lmao!

  15. I very much doubt it,

Why take the risk of farther charges just for the sake of a speeding ticket? Get it paid and put it down to the joys of motoring

  16. No. Pay the fine, or they'll add legal fees.

  17. No I hate to tell you they don't go away but only grow. They will add extra fees and fines for not appearing or paying the fine and you will eventually have a warrant issued for you. At the worst time you will get stopped and they will throw you in jail.

  18. Poor you Pay it and quit moaning. Like any other Civil human

  19. You hear a lot of things from stupid people. You will have to pay the fine.

My advice is to drive more sensibly. Do you honestly think people get run over when you see them, or is it mostly a case of "it was a quiet road and I didn't see them until it was too late" ?

  20. I'll put it in more technical terms.

If you ignore the ticket, after your scheduled court date, a warrant may be issued for your arrest.  Depending on the law where you are, its also possible that you will forfeit the right to contest the ticket.

If you come in contact with the law again, you can be detained on that warrant until you pay all related fines.

Your license will probably also be suspended.
