  1. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-...

  2. XP Antivirus is actually a Smitfraud infection. Fake and phony 'warnings' to try and con you into purchasing a rogue software to 'fix' the problem.

It should actually be called extortion-ware. First they infect your computer and then they want money to 'cure' it.

All of these are specialised removal tools for this type of fake, rogue advertising of useless malware removal softwares. (Zlob/Smitfraud infections.).

    SmitfraudFix:

    RogueFix:

    RogueRemover:

Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG Anti-virus, Norton, McAfee or Spybot S & D cannot remove it, as you have already found out.

  3. Pick one!

  4. A. Here is Symantec a write-up:

    http://www.symantec.com/security_respons...

FYI, you don't need to purchase Norton, as AVAST and excellent FREE anti-virus tool and will clean any virus just fine...

so I'll give you that info below too.

Note: When you follow the Symantec removal instructions, when you get to the part about disabling System Restore, make yourself a posty note to remember to ENABLE system Restore when you are finished.

Now you want a good scanner to protect you at all times.

Get these two that actually is RELIABLE !!!

    AVAST and AD-AWARE.

These FREE tools do an EXCELLENT job.

    A.

    Avast free Home Edition

    Get it here:

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...

And please do a "thorough" scan as soon as you get it downloaded. The user interface is simple. Click the left side, and in the top menu that comes up, select thorough scan.

When it finds a culprit it throws up an alarm, then you DELETE the culprit, (do not quaranteen).

Then allow it to run all of the time, and you will be completely protected. It will "automatically" update itself, also for free.

You only need to renew your registration once a year, also free.

Note: I KNOW of several people who have used AVG and Norton and have gotten a virus anyway.

Don't go with Zone Alarm as it is hoggy and conflicting.

I've tried them all, and have had wonderful results with DEPENDABLE AVAST for the last 5 years.

The corporation I work for uses the Pro version, and has never has an incident. Avast is your answer.

    B.

Get free Ad-AWARE spy-removal tool from Lavasoft

    1. Download, install and run this program weekly or more.
