I've registered a new account, but can't sign in?

Question

When I sign in, the message reads: this ID is not taken, are you trying to register? I don't want to re-register in case this causes a mix-up. don't know if my registration failed or if there is a delay factor

have you verified the new account yet? if you haven't (I'm not assuming you haven't- that was just my first initial thought- I'M a bonehead like that...lol) that migh be why.
