I can't find one! Please help. I have problems giving change and doing simple math. I can't even work at a place where the change amount is shown to me. I'm not stupid. I didn't goof off in class over the years, I payed attention all the time. I just never grasp the concepts, despite constant tutoring etc.No matter how hard I try and struggle I just can't do it. I'm so stressed. I make straight A's in classes like English and History. I've only passed math over the years because my teachers took pity and gave me projects to boost my grade. I really need help. I've tryed dyscalculia.org..but no test.

  1. go to your parents and school counselor and tell him or her about this.  and no test online would tell you, its something that you need to talk to someone first. trust me im dsylxic

  2. The only real screener for dyscalculia is a computer-based assessment that is administered by your school.  There is no online screening test for it.  I have included links for info about the disorder.  In particular, the website dyscalculia.org has LOTS of great info on how to talk to your math teacher about your problem, tips for doing better, etc..  I also included a link for an online dyslexia screener, which mirrors some of the dyscalculia info.  If after reviewing this information you are still concerned, then do what other posters have said--ask your guidance counselor to have you screened.   Good luck!

  3. Your public school is legally obligated to test you for this and anything else completely free. So please approach them after talking with your parents.

The person you would want to talk with at school is the diagnostician. They are not the same as the school counselor.

A diagnostician was specially trained to evaluate people and their elgibility (in school) being classified as having a disability--what academic and physical accomodations they would need for academic success.

A counselor does not provide these services, instead focusing on the emotional needs of a student.

When you request an evaluation appointment from the diagnostician, tell them that you believe you may have dyscalculia. You believe this based upon your difficulties making change..etc. but easily grasping courses which don't have math.

It's not that people unable to do math are stupid. People's brains are not all wired exactly the same.

It helps having somebody administer an assessment other than yourself.

This is because they are again legally required to perform all these educational evaluation tests in an environment which does not have other distractions (ie a telephone ringing, music playing) which yes could influence some people's test results.

And that other person can exactly determine how our brain is wired more accurately than a website.

  4. talk to your teacher at school.  ask for a real assessment by the school pyschologist.
