I've seen a couple of these weird beetle type things in my apartment...?

They are black with a light spot on the middle of their back, and they're about a quarter of an inch long. Also, they make one helluva *POP* when you squish them. Does anyone have any idea what they might be?

Not enough information.  Most beetles crunch when squished.  Patterns on their backs are also not very distinguishing.  It like saying do you know the guy in The United States, he had a nose in the middle of his face.

I live in California and we have the same thing but its outside beetles not cockroaches but any insect look the same. They come out to eat than they go back into the dirt. They come out only when its hot and humid. I don't know if they're harmless or poisonous.

Sounds like cockroaches.

They are HARD to get rid of. You need to do everything possible before they take the place over.

Get bug bombs, call an exterminator, put a bunch of "Roach Motels" all over the place.

Do ALL of these things, and keep doing them.
