I've seen countless public service ads about the destructiveness of second hand smoke. Are these ads true?

Other than being annoyed or feeling uncomfortable has anyone actually been harmed by second hand smoke?

A study published in 1992 in the JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association) showed that 'passive smoking' (i.e. second-hand smoke) kills 30,000-40,000 people per year!  I would say that was significant.  Studies have shown that children who grow up in homes where parents smoke are much more likely to develop asthma, and that kids with asthma get more serious diseases if exposed to smoke.  Second hand smoke is even seen as a factor in cancer in pets!

Just Google 'second hand smoke' and you'll see lots of hard evidence.

No. It's called junk science.  There have been two studies, both with large numbers of people, both over a long period of time, one of which was done by the World Health Organization, and both found no statistical correlation between SHS and disease.  Neither of these studies is ever quoted.  All other studies are either short, few participants, or are a rehash of studies done before.

Also in order to get statistical correlation other studies had the rules changed.  Kinda like hacking the key to a test and changing the needed number to pass from 7 to 5.  Sure you pass, but you cheated.

Yes they are true ,and a lot of people are actually allergic to smoke

i've been around second smoke alot and nothing has happened to me, but who am i to say that the next time i'm around it, i may have an asthma attack or black out and headed to the ER? i'm stupid for just sitting there while some idiot is smoking around me in the NON-Smoking section. it believe it does harm people even when they don't feel it or know it. i dont see why people smoke anyway when they KNOW its dangerous. its a very stupid thing.
