Unfortunately, everything they talk about mostly in bad ways like 'selling and buying drug', 'talking like a Thai hooker', 'get married with a lady boy'. What the f**k Hollywood doing this to my country. They are telling the story that's not true! even if it's partly true, you don't have the right to do so!

  1. I am a Thai woman who has been living in the US for years. I have faced all the stereotypes. My professors discussed about material in class which have nothing to do with Thailand. He randomly addressed about how greedy Thai government is to allow Western tourists to have s*x and rape 12 years old Thai girls. Then, another professor addressed in IR class about how Thai bar girls escape from a women and families foundation to become a bar girl again because they love the hooker lifestyle and don't want help from the NGOs.

I was working at the front-desk at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC. Here come a stupid man, trying to harass me with stupid questions about Thai bar girls and ladyboys (The Thai Embassy is not a proper place to ask these questions therefore I asked him to leave)

A few guy friends went to Thailand. They talked about how good looking Thai girls in massage parlor were. The eyes were all sparkling and happy--I am pretty sure those girls give them more than massages. Whenever I tell people, I am from Thailand. They said, Oh Thailand has many beautiful girls. I need to go find me a girl there. A rich man once teased with me. He said, if I marry him. I can kill him and take all his money.

Regardless of the storetypeing, I can tell everyone that I am proud to be a Thai lady. I just ignored stupid people because they obviously don't know anything about Thailand and it is too bad for them.

  2. yeah, I know - I am not thai and it bugs me too - - I live in central thailand and it is very traditional - just good farming people - - bu if hollywood made a movie abt this, everyone would be bored... when I first started coming here people were sending me videos and stuff abt girls chained up in basements and caves like s*x slaves - - and it makes it look like this is everywhere.. and of course, I have never seen anything like this - but it does happen in Austria and Ohio etc etc.. - - so, the heck with them -

  3. I once live in New York, and they said anything beyond Hudson River are foreign countries. There're lots of red necks you see.

  4. I agree, unfortunately dtugs and s*x sells. The media and hollywood forgets that 95% of the population is hardworking people living in one of the most friendly and nicest places on the earth.

What I do find hillarious is tourists who return from Thailand and cannot stop talking about their disgust with Patpong or Silom Soi 4. If they do not like such things, why did they go there?

  5. Yeah! I know!  It annoys me too.  Okay.. I know that there are lots of 'lady boys,' hookers and etc in Thailand but do they really have to bring it up?? I mean.. every country has its bad side.. but what about the good side...?  There are hardly any Hollywood films that actually show the good side of Thailand.  They're giving other people the wrong impression of our country.  Once a foreigner said to me 'ALL Thai women are like prostitutes'.. That really p*ssed me off.  I don't think she realised I was Thai so replied to her 'Are you calling my mum a prosti??' and so she went silent...  And I know that was just one person but my point is... that.. where the heck did she get that impression from that our country is full of prostitutes...??  So I asked her what makes her think that our country is like that and she said it was from films...  It's just so unfair...!!! Why do movies have to give people wrong impression...??!!

Okay I know that Thailand is famous about transexual... and  maybe it's funny to include that .. like... 'I just went out with a beautiful girl and when we finally get laid, I realise she has a d**k..' you know.. , those sorts of stuffs..  I don't blame them to try to make their films funny and talk about our country in an offensive way... but really.. sometimes it's just too much..  At least, I don't think Thai people would enjoy it very much...

I don't mind it too much but seriously... they only show our bad side and make fun of it.  They hardly ever show the good side.  They're giving people the wrong impression making it stereotypical that Thailand is full of hookers, drugs, lady boys, golddiggers, black markets where you can buy all sorts of organs, getting magic mushrooms from a restuarant and all those sh*ts....

Okay.. I guess this is getting too wrong so I better stop.. But I'm just so annoyeddd...

  6. Don't worry so much about it.  Hollywood also makes fun of white trailer trash, black people being ghetto, European women being hairy, European men acting like Borat, and American Christians as being Bible-humpers who marry their cousins.  Every race is hated on.

It's the people who PERPETUATE these stereotypes we should be furious about.  Look at Tila Tequila.  I hate her.  She makes all Asian women look bad.  That w***e.  Thanks to her, I can't be an attractive, intelligent business woman who happens to be Asian.  People just assume I run a nail salon or massage parlor or something.  WTF!  I'm a lawyer!

awww, why the thumbs down, lpg?  can't handle the truth about sterotypes?

  7. I know it's easy to get upset about these things, but don't worry.  Many to most people know not to believe everything they see on TV, and to pretty much disbelieve anything that comes out of Hollywood =P.

I am not Thai, but I have never had a bad experience with a Thai person.  I have a very high opinion of Thai people, and it hasn't been influenced by Hollywood flicks, but rather by the people I've actually met and with whom I've interacted.
