even if the line isn't a business line? I'm sure I can start paying through my new business account, but I'm not sure if it'll qualify as business expenditure on the company accounts at the end of the year as its a purely personal line.

  1. We have just sold our business. Although I did get some business calls on my mobile my Accountant would only claim for the landline phone at the business, and part of our home phone. Ask your Accountant.

  2. No, if its for personal calls no. Your business accounts have to be separate. You could try, but that is up to you.

  3. If its purely personal, no, but if you say its detrimental to business, yes..

  4. If you are the sole proprietor or partner, why not. Its for business purposes.

  5. You have just answered your own question. If the mobile phone is  exclusively for personal use then it cannot be claimed as a business expense. Hence you should not pay for it through your business account. You do not mention what type of company or business you have set up. If you need to be contacted for business reasons, and are frequently on the move, then you can justifiably claim a proportion of the mobile phone bill as a business expense.
