I've shocked my pool and put in chlorine and it's still cloudy!?

I have a little pool, just over 1000 gallons. We shocked it twice, have a chlorine floaty, have run the filter, and the water is still really cloudy. The test shows the ph level being way too high, but there's hardly any chlorine. What do I do next? How do I lower the ph, and is there anything besides the chemicals you buy at the store?

  1. The cheapest and easiest way to reduce the pH is with muriatic acid. Gallon jugs can be found at most hardware stores. Also, if you have no stabalizer (cyanuric acid) in the pool you will lose your chlorine very quickly. You lose chlorine by it doing its job and by being burnt off by the sun. The stabalizer slows the latter. If your pool was really dirty when you shocked then your levels will drop quickly as it kills all the organic debris. Also, your pool may cloud up with dead organic debris from the chlorine killing everything. You need to run your filter 24hrs/day until the water clears. Also add some stabalizer, get your pH down, and buy some clarifier from a pool store. Always follow the instructions on the bottle because you can put too much in.

  2. You have to buy Ph reducer at the store and you should add clarifier to the pool and that will clear up the cloudiness.
