Question:

I've signed up for a staffing agency where the recruiter is treating me like c**p. Is there anything I can do

I'm extremely frustrated because this is one of few agencies with leads that might help in my job search. The recruiter acts like he has no time for me, usually referring me to his "assistant". Isn't my (relationship) with the recruiter who recommends me for given jobs?

He tells me that I'm one of the top running candidates in his office, and we seemed to hit it off at first. But now, even though I can substantiate that he receives my emails, he doesn't give me the courtesy of a response.

I also understand that it's the "client" that they really care about, i.e., the one who pays... But don't we, as job seekers have rights of some sort too? Couldn't I report my concerns to the branch manager and request another recruiter who might be able to help me without going to another branch?

  1. If his assistant has any ability to answer your questions, it would be best to speak with that person.

Frankly, I have had the worst luck with staffing agencies. It sounds like it might be worth it to stick it out with this agency, but unfortunately rudeness is something you just have to put up with sometimes.

If it's really bad, you could report it to his manager, or someone higher up than him.  That might put a stop to future problems.

  2. He gets his monthly bonus based on how many new faces he recruits each month.  You got him his bonus.  Now he doesn't need you any more.  Run for the hills.  Your skills are needed. /
