It is too supposed to hurt that way, and there is nothing wrong with it.

You will miss this person for a long time, and feel sad for a long time, but eventually it will get better for you.

I would look at it this way:

The fact that you miss this person so badly, just proves what an awesome person they are/were.  I am sure they appreciate how much you love them, but would be as heartbroken as you are right now, if they knew you were sad.

I can't tell from you note for sure if the person is living, but either way, think of the positive things this person has done and the high points of their whole life!
