Question:

I've tried to spray paint touch up my car, is something wrong?

I have a 2004 volvo s60 that is "ginger" colored.

I went to my local car body specialist and bought a bottle of touch up paint and a spray bottle of touch up paint. I filled in many scratches with the paint, wet sanded to smoothness, and then decided to give the spray painting a go. IT LOOKS LIKE c**p. The paint isn't smooth and/or shiny enough to blend with the rest of the car. Is this a manual error or should I be sanding it after to blend? I know nothing about cars/painting them and went on a couple of sites to try to figure things out. I thought I followed instructions to the T but my results are really upsetting.

  1. the thing with spray painting your car yourself is, that you will never get it even and good looking.

when its done at a professional they charge your car up and charge up the paint with opposite ions. therefore attracting the paint to the car and getting an even finish,.

its not something you can recreate yourself

  2. do not spray paint your car are you crazy!

  3. Your car has a clear coat over the paint Matching it is next to impossible> Unless a body shop mixes the paint

and blends it> Sorry they didn't do you any favors>

  4. Try wet sanding it and then polishing it out. It sounds like the paint went on a little dry.
