Question:

I've want to teach English overseas later this year. Any programs that are recommended out there?

I've found a TEFL institute based out of Chicago, but i've heard that they've come under scrutiny from the BBB recently.

I'm interested in China, Taiwan, S.Korea, Vietnam, or the Czech Republic. Any good programs for these?

  1. Finding a decent reputable course can be quite challenging, and the main reason for this is that there are no international quality or regulatory body for such courses.

That said, the only advice I would give would be to avoid institutions whose qualifications are not accredited by a University.

Trinity and CELTA/DELTA are both very good EFL courses, and are recognised by the British Council (who incidentally are NOT a regulatory body or authority), however these courses tend to be very expensive.

Another good choice are those run by London Teacher Training College, they are all distance learning and offer considerable savings over Trinity and CELTA courses.

If you want further savings take a look at Access2English who have a permanent 5% discount offer on LTTC courses and various add-on offers from time to time.

  2. This is only applicable for Japan, but you may want to look at http://www.jetprogramme.org/ for more information.

  3. I looked into this and you will need a TESOL qualification or TEFL.  Both are equally as good, just governed by different bodies.  Google them and you will find tonnes of information.  You can do the course online or by attending classes.  It is better to attend the classes as you get more teaching experience and will more likely to get a job.
