I-485 filing fee for my toddler?

I am filing I-485 for myself and for my son who is 5. I will pay 935 dollars. But I am not clear whether I also pay 935 dollars for my son. The instructions are not clear. Is his application independent from mine? I can not reach anybody at USCIS customer service. Any help appreciated!

  1. I don't know where you got the $935 figure from... The fee for the I-485 is $930 first of all, and there is a biometrics fee of $80 that you must add on top of that, for a total of $1010.

Then your son's fee is $600 and being under 14 he should not have to have his biometrics taken. So your total fees should be $1610.

You might want to write two checks, one for $1010 to attach to your application, and one for $600 to attach to your son's application.

  2. The USCIS instructions for I-485 make it pretty clear what the filing fee is.

"The fee for a child under the age fourteen years will be $600 when submitted concurrently for adjudication with the application of a parent under sections 201(b)(A)(i), 203(a)(2)(A), and 203(d) of the INA."
