HI, I AM IN A METHADONE PROGRAM TO QUIT OXYCONTINS. I RECENTLY APPLIED FOR A JOB AND THEY GAVE ME A URINE DRUG TEST. WILL THE METHADONE MAKE ME TEST POSITIVE FOR OPIATES? DO ALL DRUG SCREENS TEST FOR OPIATES? THANKS

If that was the case.  Then, that would be something you can prove.  You would have the prescription bottle or you dentist could confirm he gave you the rx.

Yes, methadone will show positive for opiates but most tests differentiate between Methadone & other opiates. You need to know your rights too. An employer cannot fire you for treating addiction only if you are in active addiction. Therefore if you are on Methadone for addiction through a clinic they cannot use that as a reason to not hire you or fire you else they go against the ADA. See...
