  1. i dont know as much about the army. the marines was my area and i know they had an age limit for something like that. if u were in the army and out for 10 years...thats gotta put you in your 30's. id check the age limit on that. other than that, if you can prove yourself, i see no other reason why your previous specialty should matter

  2. Extremely doubtful.

  3. Do you want to go to the school or go to a Ranger Battalion?  If you want the school as a cook, then I would recommend you go to a Ranger battalion.  The school is a combat leaders course so non-combat arms MOS's have difficulty getting slots anyway.  In a Ranger Battalion you have an increased chance of getting a slot, but to get into a Battalion you have to get through RIP.  Schools are always determined by unit slots and units pick who goes according to who needs the training...sorry, but a cook doesn't need combat leadership courses as much as a CPL who is an infantryman.  In a Ranger Battalion you have an edge since they want all personnel to be Ranger qualified, especially NCO's and all officers.  Ten years is a long time...I am not sure I could make it through the Ranger School Course now at age 34 but I did when I was 24.  I used to think that wearing the tab meant something, that it defined me as a soldier and as a person...after ten years and combat deployments I can tell you that there are leaders who never attended the Ranger School Course that I would follow to the gates of h**l.  Leadership isn't about badges its about the individual.  The tab only looks good on paper, plenty wear it on their shoulder but are not effective leaders.  Be a good leader, in the end no one cares what badges and tabs you sport as long as you know your job, your lane and have a chance of getting everyone out alive.  Happy hunting...

  4. Bad news. You will have to go through BCT again First before you can request ranger school. But they should let you. Talk with a Ranger recruiter when you are back in.

  5. The big question is are you going back in as a cook?  Or taking another MOS?

If you are going in as a cook, send a nice letter to the Headquarters Company Commander of the Ranger battalion(s) you prefer.  Just ask him if he will accept you for his DFAC.  If he will, your recruiter can make the necessary things happen -- like making sure you are stationed at Hunter AAF or Fort Benning as part of your enlistment contract.  He will also need to contact the repo depo commander at whichever post and let them know.

If you are going in another MOS -- just enlist as an 11B with Ranger option.

  6. you should know.. but you are probably to old to be a ranger now
