  1. Whatever you do, remember that people who go onto RateMyProfessor.com are either HIGHLY satisfied or VERY dissatisfied: most likely the latter than the former.

General advice is to buy and read the books, follow the instructions on the syllabus, get your assignments in on time (college profs have heard all the excuses and really do not care about how sick your dog was last night), attend ALL classes, and get into see the prof during their office hours to discuss your goals for the class and how well you are doing.

Always be prepared for class. Keep the partying to a minimum. Act as if college is a regular fulltime job: 35-40 hours a week of classes, studying, writing, research and projects inclusive.

Work for cash is important, but you are paying for your classes: do you want to throw away your hard-earned money?

    best of luck

  2. Research your professor's before signing up for a class, I use ratemyprofessor.com and myspace's professor rating.  A killer hard professor can completely get you down.  And/or if you have friends that are going to the same college ask them who they recommend.

  3. Wow.  IT will be a big schok to come to LA.  Just be real and dont get caught up in the BS party scenes.  LA is notorious for douche bags and narcisistic individuals.
