Question:

I Among Those Seeking Refreshing Music?

I'm looking for some new music. Problem is, I have a lot of different music that I can barely tolerate, let alone that I will listen to willingly. Among the offending genres are: Country, Rap, Emo, Screamo, and Death Metal, although I am absolutely positive there are more.

Some of my favorite artists include: Tool, Coldplay, (OLD) Incubus, Alanis, Alice in Chains, Arcturus, Chevelle, Deftones, Dog Fashion Disco, Dredg, Fear Factory, Filter, Isis, Katatonia, (OLD) Korn, Lacrimas Profundere, (OLD) Manson, Meshuggah, Modest Mouse, Muse, Nevermore, APC, Porcupine Tree, Smashing Pumpkins, Ulver, and for chill music I enjoy quite a few 90s pop bands, although its not the first place I turn to.

I enjoy Doom Metal, but have basically succeeded in listening to it to death, so unless you know of something REALLY amazing, please avoid this category.

The current music scene is pretty discouraging to me, and I have to reiterate that I don't enjoy most of what people consider "metal" these days.

Anyway, make some suggestions, but do your best to NOT add things like "Five Finger Death Punch" or "Bullet for My Valentine" I can't deal with this music, its sickening.

Its a sad day when I'm getting worn out of music, so please, be kind, and help me out.

  1. You should check out John Zorn.

I'm thinking you should start with his Electric Masada stuff like, "At the Mountains of Madness" or Vol. 4 in his 50th Birthday series.

If you like that then back up about 20 years and listen to some of his more well known Naked City stuff.

Also his Filmworks series is really good too.

  2. you got problems...

  3. I suggest trying Pearl Jam

  4. For chilling out you cant beat Portishead and Belle and Sebastian...nice bit of Mauro Picotto mixed in if you want it a bit more lively.

Me personally, Presidents of the USA...I always feel better after listening to them!

Or Montreal...German punk, give them a try too.

  5. You would love Deadsy if you're into those other artists. Give them a try, you won't regret it. They are very unique.

And despite what others may say,I DON'T think you'd like Panic! At the Disco (though I'm sure you've heard of them. I can't stand that rubbish).

  6. Blind Melon, Godsmack, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, Pearl Jam, Hole, Pixies, Bush, Sonic Youth, Garbage, Alice In Chains, veruca Salt, Screaming Trees, Collective Soul, Meat Puppets, The Verve, Beck, Placebo, Von Bondies, Queens of the Stone Age, Paparoach, Buckcherry, Drowning Pool, Static-X.

One good doom metal band I have to recommend though is Carcass. ;)

  7. Try..

    Interpol

    Silversun Pickups

    Emanuel

    Between the Buried and Me

  8. I'd say, check out:

    Godsmack

    Scar Symmetry

    Soilwork

    The Haunted

    :)
