  1. Blu-Ray will look great on it but the contrast ratio for the TV seems a bit low.....

  2. Yes. Blu-Ray disc players compliment HD TV's very nicely. Blu Ray is the best picture you'll get off of a disc right now. HD DVD is going off the market and regular DVD just dont cut it.

  3. Your HDTV is crying without Blu-ray.

Nothing looks as good as it, not HD cable/satellite, not HD VMD, nothing. The 48 Mbps bandwidth and MPEG-4 and VC-1 codecs allow for a stunning picture, well beyond anything DVD could ever hope to dream of looking like.

The PS3 is definitely the best option on the market right now unless you're picking up a 120" screen and a $30,000 1080p projector, in which case you'd want to look at the Pioneer ELITE or Denon player for the better picture quality they offer.

  4. If you are looking for blue ray players, I recommend the playstation 3. It is the cheapest and the best then the (standard) blue ray players out there. It also updates via online, as opposed   to regular blue ray players. Which by the way really sucks because some 1st generation blue ray players cannot play some of the latest blue rays. Its beside your question but just thought you would like to know.

  5. Yes, it will look great in 1080p.

  6. Yes, it'll look very good. If you've ever known someone to have both standard and HD broadcast cable to a widescreen tv you'll notice a great difference in clarity when they switch from HD to standard. This would be about the same difference, but not quite as drastic. Even if you get an upscaling DVD player it won't be able to compare to the clarity of a BR player with BR disc.

When purchasing a BR player find out if the hardware supports the latest firmware release. Some players on the market are are version 1.0 and the hardware will not be able to support the 2.0 features that will be found on newer discs.

One consideration of Blu Ray players is the PS3 if you like video games, or have kids who like video games. The cost of the PS3 isn't much more than a good BR player, but has many more features. It can be hooked up to a computer to surf the net, play games online (without a subscription), update you firmware as updates are released, play a PSP using the PS3 to display the video on your TV, and various other things. It's worth looking into if you are considering a high definition gaming platform.

  7. It will look great with blue ray.   A Blue Ray is on my list too.   I just bought a 52 inch Sony Bravia 5 months ago.   A regular DVD (even a 1080p) will not provide a picture as clear  and vivid as blue ray.
