  1. Over the counter flea treatments are a waste of money and CAN be harmful to your cat !

Don't knock what you have been told by someones answer, they are correct that these cheap treatments can kill your cat !

Go to your vet and buy something like Frontline or Advantage

  2. I think the idea of it is to make the eggs sterile

, not to kill the fleas. If the eggs are sterile, the life cycle stops

  3. "If it doesnt kill my cat?? LOL!! They wouldnt sell it if it was going to kill my cat.. DUH!!"

    www.hartzvictims.org -- http://www.hartzvictims.org/?s=zodiac <-- from using Zodiac.

Pets die every day from over-the-counter flea products. I've seen my fair share of seizuring, shivering cats and dogs just from people using Hartz, Biospot, Seargent and Zodiac.

    Do a search on Y!A - there's a post a night.

While it may save you $10, the vet bills could be upwards of $1000 if your cat has a reaction, and even then, you might have to invest in a shovel to bury her.

Use a product like Frontline Plus, Frontline Topspot, Advantage, Promeris, Vectra 3D, or Revolution. It will be well worth it to make sure that the fleas are actually treated, and your cat lives through it.

None are supposed to be systemic (go through the blood stream). They are meant to absorb in to the oil glands, and disperse slowly (~ 1 mo) through the hair folicles, never going deeper than the skin. However, some products have shown trace amounts in the blood stream. The problem is not so much the chemical itself, but the carrier. While Frontline/Advantage etc are EPA regulated all the way through, Hartz etc only tests the chemical, and even that is not regulated. What that means is that you never can be sure how much pesticide is in each dose, and there are no studies on how the carrier may react with the pet.

  4. Advantage works the best u can buy it at any pets store its around $40 they have one for cats and dogs,

                     Hope This Helps!

  5. I wouldn't use it. Companies sell stuff all the time that harms animals!!!!!! Did you miss the entire pet food recall that killed thousands and thousands of animals? How about Hartz flea products. That c**p kills animals weekly!!!!!!!

You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus online at Drs. Foster and Smith which will definitely kill all the fleas on your cat and prevent re-infestation.

Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline Plus is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of that three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you capstar add on the Frontline Plus with in 12 hours and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four weeks of age. Package of 6.

  6. if it doesn't kill your cat it probably won't do much for the fleas, go to the vet and get something that actually works
