By now, you've probably heard about the Sparks-Shock tussle in Detroit (if not, here it is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ivr_ttX_V20).

As bad as it was, do you think that maybe this is the sort of thing that the WNBA needs to up their ratings a bit?

Even attract some male viewers?

Do you think that this was a good thing for the WNBA (let's not get politically correct here)?

  1. i do think its gonna up their ratings..

candace may have saved this league..

    its actually worth watching her.

  2. What up 22,

i think it's a bad thing for the WNBA in that their most marketable player- Candace Parker will be suspended as one of the major players in the fight.

This is not the type of thing you expect to happen on any sort of regular basis- so it's not going to increase viewership--- unless there is a Shock vs Sparks finals.

For me- i'd love seeing Candace Parker be that tough- even though it may hurt her team who is fighting for a playoff spot- but overall it's not good for the sport... but it actually created a rivarly which people may turn into to watch if the two teams hook up in the WNBA finals.

  3. did the pistons-pacers brawl or nuggets-knicks brawl sell more tickets? what we are looking for is basketball action, not fights. There's boxing and MMA to handle all the fighting acion.

  4. I don't believe more people will watch because two teams had a catfight. More people will see the highlight, but that's all. The average fan will not turn on a WNBA game because Detroit and LA had a shoving match.

  5. YES,it will help the WNBA right now everybody is up on there soapbox preaching about people being ban please, one little fight h**l let's call home land security, people are talking about the WNBA and that always good if they meet in the playoffs don't be naive enough to think it want be played up.

  6. dont know how good it is but it certiantly brought alot of publicity to the WNBA

  7. I think the WNBA has tried pretty hard to emphasize the "playing the right way" angle to bring in families and especially young girls to the games.  I don't think it's a good thing for them.

It has people talking about them though.  There would have been maybe one post about that game if the tussle hadn't happened...  Isn't it interesting that ESPN is calling that a brawl and not correctly refering to it like you did, a tussle.

  8. First of all, I CANNOT believe im answering a wnba question,

but yes, i do think that the wnba will have more viewers now, one of them being me :]
