  1. Once again the date for getting passports for cruise travel has been pushed back to summer 2009. http://www.travel.gov for more information on travel guidelines.  SO, for now you do NOT need a passport to travel on your cruise to Mexico.  Your valid DL & birth certificate is all you need (if you were recently married it is advised to bring a copy of your marriage liscense).  However, a passport is HIGHLY reccomended but not required.  They reccomend you to get a passport in case a medical emergency took place and you had to be flown back into the states.  The choice is yours.  If you have not yet booked your cruise and would like to book or need any other information please give me a call.

  2. I am not sure, but I am interested in finding out the answer.

  3. simple answer: its because they keep posponing the passport law

  4. They are correct, for now.

  5. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) when fully implemented on June 1, 2009 will require all travelers to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda to present a valid passport or other approved document that establishes the bearer's identity and citizenship in order to enter or reenter the United States.

The cruise lines lobbied for more time.  So, until June, 2009, you only need a Driver's License and a birth certificate.  Make sure you have a birth certificate with a "raised seal" on it or it won't be accepted.

My buddy missed his cruise and lost his money because his birth certificate didn't have a "raised seal".

  6. I would get a passport. When going through customs it will be faster and easier. If you use your birth certificate you need to get into a special line after departing from the ship and it usually takes longer to go through that line than it doe's to go through the passport line.

  7. You do not need a passport for sea or land travel, only air travel at this time.

  8. you don't nesseraly need a passport to go there once you have you birth certificate you are fine. but only if you do have one it would be good to take it but also would be good just to have one for later trips.

  9. It was rumored that you would need a passport to travel to Mexico a couple of months ago but since it is a common destination and some people travel daily for example from El Paso, TX to Juarez, MX people began making a big deal and the Border Patrol and US Gov. I guess decided that a license and birth certificate would suffice for now.

  10. You will need a passport starting next June 1, 2009.
