I Can't access Dell laptop from desktop, but can access desktop from laptop?

both are running with windows Xp

both disk drives are shared

desktop and laptop firewall is off

i can ping with desktop but can't ping with laptop

  1. probablly the lan card of the laptop is corruted

    see if there are other slots in the lan card

    or just change the lan wire and interchange the ends of the connection

    this will help you

    if still no

    then seewhether some other antivirus of firewall is running in the laptop

    that is only problem

    there mustabe a protocol error only

    go to the network connectons then properties then tcp/ip properties then see if both of them have the same protocols installed

    i suppose...............


  2. Check your anti-virus so make sure that it's not blocking the ping or file share access. Try and access the laptop by using ip address intead of name. Make sure "file and print sharing" is on both. Check that both are on the same subnet and that the user accounts have access to both. If you are using a router to act as a switch, check to see if MAC address of both are allowed.
