  1. He is fine. I did that to my lab once. He just yelped once and licked it then he was fine. Try to keep him from running to much and don't let him l**k it a lot either. Just keep an eye on him but he is fine

  2. As a groomer I can say this happens all of the time.  Quick Stop is a great thing to use but if you do not have any here is a list of things that will work.

    Pressure on the nail

    Cornstach

    Dish Soap

    Super Glue

It may look bad but chances are it is fine, and it will stop bleeding.  I have done it several times and it is very easy to get them too short.

  3. You can also try nail grinding. I used to clip my dog's nails but ultimately it just got too stressful for me as well as my dog. It is often difficult to see where the quick is, so I would accidentally cut in too much.

Now I use the Dremel cordless Minimite to grind my dog's nails and both he and I are much happier. You have much better control over how much you take off, so you never hit the quick of the nail. I highly recommend it.

  4. There's a powder called quik-stop.  If you don't have any, hold pressure on it until it stops.  Then get something for bleeding before you cut them again.

If you don't know how to cut dogs' nails, your vet will show you.  He may sell the powder, too.  I think a groomer would let you watch, too.  Also, they cut nails at PetCo and PetSmart stores.

Now that they're short, you can get a nail file for fake human fingernails and file them every week.  It will keep them nice and short without the risk of cutting into the quick.  Just don't file too long on one spot.

    Good luck.

  5. You can't really stop it. Don't worry about it, it happens to everyone. You just have to wait it out.

  6. Take a pinch of flour and press it on the end of the nail.

You can buy a product called Kwik Stop that works even better.

    Not a big deal.
