  1. Maybe you can work with animation or graphic design. Do not worry too much though. I am having the same problem and I am a freshman this fall. I am learning to look at college for exploration of what I want in life.

  2. Well unfortunately, game design involves a lot of sitting at a desk in an office.  ;)  It’s a really fun job, but you have to be comfortable with being at the computer 95% of the time, working long hours, and dealing with high levels of stress.

Professional game designers typically make a comfortable wage, but it's not amazing.  There's a game industry salary survey from 2006 here: http://gamecareerguide.com/features/266/... that lists Designers on page 4.  Average starting salary is $43,000 per year, and average salary across all titles and experience levels is $63,000.  If you live in an expensive state like California you'll get paid a bit more.

There isn’t really a typical day for a game designer, as the job changes constantly.  In a general sense, game design is the process of coming up with the ideas for every tiny detail of the game, and communicating those ideas to the programmers, artists, testers, etc.  The designer decides what NPC the player encounters where, and what the NPC will say; what weapon the player can get at what point in the game and how much damage it does; what attacks a boss mob has and how much damage they do, etc.

Game design is done mostly with math and writing, using programs like Word and Excel, and doesn’t involve any programming or math, and usually only minimal testing.  Designers use math to balance all the various numbers in a game – damage, health, armor, speed, experience, etc etc – to ensure that the game is fun to play.  They write up everything, all the details of the game, so that the programmers, artists, level builders, testers, etc, can put it into action.  It requires a lot of creativity on demand, and a lot of critical thinking.  And since so many people want to be game designers, you have to be at the top of your game consistently, or someone else will take your job.

The hours can be really long, especially during the last few months before a game ships. Stress is high, not only because of the threat of someone else taking your job, but because you’re typically working on a multi-million dollar project that cannot go over budget or over schedule.  But the working environment is very casual – shorts and t-shirt casual – and typically very fun.  People in the industry are a blast to work with, and it really is a fantastic job.

  3. Sounds like you might like computer science.  Programming.  Money is no limit, look at Bill Gates.

  4. Unless you want to be a doctor or lawyer, don't worry about your career before you get to college.  Worry about what you'll study, and maybe what entry-level jobs it will get you.  Once you're done with your bachelor's degree, you can get a job in your field or find a fellowship to pay for grad study.  But most people wind up switching careers at least once, so don't worry that you'll be pinning yourself into a particular career by your choice of major.  Also, once you've started college you can get internships and co-ops to get a better idea of what work in your field is like and whether you might want to switch fields.

  6. Pharmacist or Doctor or Chemist.

You can make a lot of money in the medical fields and you are contrbuting to the world.

    good luck.
