I just recently moved to an on campus apt. at college, and I don't know my landline number. I have tried picking up the phone and calling my cell number, and it gives me a phone number. Yet each time I call the number... the phone in my room will not ring. The odd thing is that each time I use my landline number to call my cell... a different number always pops up on the cell id.

What should I do???

I am so confused by all of this.

  1. It's possible your campus telephone system is tied into a PBX phone system that is tied to various phone numbers.  Your phone is probably an extension line on the PBX system and not tied to a fixed phone number.  The PBX may display different phone numbers for your outgoing calls depending on which numbers are already being associated with other outgoing calls over the same trunk line.

If you are on a PBX with extension lines, I would expect that there would be an IVR that picks-up the calls and asks the caller to input the extension number of the person they want to talk to...

There must be other students nearby you can ask them how it works for them?

  2. I'm sure the school you are attending has a specific way for you to figure out your room telephone number... When I was attending school there was a handout by the phone that let me know the last 4 digits of my number.  If you are in a dorm try and ask your R.A.

  3. why dont you call your provider on your cell phone and get it sorted out
